Our students loved working with Johannes. His integration of songwriting and leadership challenged them to express themselves in a way that was very foreign to them, but that was engaging, introspective, fun, and innovative. It was both a memorable and valuable session for them, and for us adults as well.
— Aiko Laski, Program Coordinator, GPI US

Collaborative songwriting for students

  • Students write and perform original songs about their most important stories.

  • Improved sensibility for students and staff that everyone is an artist, independent of any self-imposed limitations.

  • Students explore their ability to write songs and tell their stories musically. The degree of hierarchy between “artist” and “listener” disappears: Everyone is an artist.

  • Storytelling and songwriting tools are available to all students for future use.

  • Students build confidence regarding artistic self-expression, story ideation, sharing and performance.

  • The appreciation of music creation as a tool for personal expression has been enhanced for students and staff.

  • Improved positioning of your institution as a place that nourishes the creativity of students.

What our clients say about our work

Johannes Flecker embodies what’s possible when you apply music thinking in a new way.
— Panos A. Panay, VP Innovation & Strategy, Berklee College of Music
My favorite was going to the recording studio (...) It created a safe environment where everyone could be more of themselves out of the classroom (...) We were also able to grasp the basic ideas of working together and thinking creatively that are needed in the business world. I definitely would consider this as the highlight of my time here at Harvard.
— Student | Ivy League Summer Institute at Harvard
The business class gave me a lot of insight of myself. My self identity was extremely strong when we did the recording activity.

Another thing I learned during the program was to step out of my comfort zone and try doing new things. I learned this during our songwriting session.

We were taken to a recording studio with piano, guitar drum set and many other instruments. We (...) adapted the song “Hello” and we ended up singing our own songs and recording them. This activity improved my creativity and imagination.
